I think it's tacky to plan your own baby shower.
One should be throw FOR you by a close friend or an aunt or someone.
You should have it about a month to a month 1/2 before you're due.

You can help someone plan yours. My sister said she wanted to throw one for me, but I know I'm doing financially better than her at this moment, so I said I'd take care of the invitations (and pay for the postage), and I said it can be at my place since I have a bigger living room. I can't do too much more, or I'll start insulting her pride, but I think it's fair to pitch in where you can.

I'm due September 13 and my baby shower is on July 7…..partly because my mother in law could make it then. I am having a hard time letting my mom and sister plan it themselves. I really want to take control and get things done, even though they are the ones throwing it for me.

You just DON'T have or plan your own baby shower. Someone throws it for you. It can be two or one months ahead, or about a month after.

If you are due Sept 15th – anytime between now and then is perfect. Just don't wait too long, or you won't enjoy it as much. You'll just want to be done being pregnant

As far as etiquette goes, it is not a good idea to throw your own baby shower. Having a shower thrown for you and your baby is a gift from family and friends. People will think you are just out to get presents.
